An hour of intake for a case you cannot take.

A caller with a matter you do not handle, in a county you do not practice in, still costs you the hour it takes to find that out. The agent asks your intake questions in your order, screens the matter against the criteria you set, and either books a consultation or routes it to a person. It does not give legal advice, and it says so during the call.

Demo Law Firm is our demo company, and its prices are invented. The system answering is the real one.

i got rear ended last tuesday, do i have a case
I am not able to answer that, and nothing we say here creates an attorney-client relationship. What I can do is take the details and put them in front of an attorney at Demo Law Firm. Where did it happen?
hood county. police came out and did a report
Thank you. Motor vehicle, Hood County, last Tuesday, police report taken. Before I book anything, can you give me the name of the other driver and their insurer?
sure, one sec

The three leaks

Where law firm hours actually go.

The intake that was never your case

An hour on the phone with a matter outside your practice area, outside your jurisdiction, or years past the date anyone could do something about it. You cannot bill that hour and you cannot get it back.

The 9pm call that reaches a recording

Nobody has the crisis between nine and five. They call at night, in the worst week of their life, and what answers is a voicemail greeting that does not sound like help.

The firm that called back first

A potential client calls three firms in an afternoon and retains whoever gets back to them. Not the best firm for the matter. The first one to pick up.

What the agent handles

New matter intake

Walks the caller through the questions you wrote, in the order you wrote them, and puts the answers in one record. Nobody has to remember the fifteenth question at 9pm on a Thursday.

Practice area and jurisdiction screening

Checks the matter against your criteria: what you take, where you take it, and the date of the incident. A matter outside them never lands on an attorney calendar as a consultation. It comes to you as a note instead of an hour.

Conflict name collection

Collects every other party the caller names and compares them against the list you provide. It does not clear a conflict. A match, or anything it is unsure about, stops there and goes to a person before anything is booked.

Consultation booking and confirmation

Offers the times an attorney actually has open, then confirms the day before and again the morning of, so the consultation that was booked is the consultation that happens.

After-hours and weekend calls

Answers at 9pm and on Saturday, takes the details, and tells the caller when somebody will be in touch. Anything you have defined as urgent is escalated on the path you set rather than left in a voicemail box until Monday.

Routine questions from current clients

Office hours, where to send a document, who is handling what. Anything touching the substance or the status of a matter is written down and handed to the person on the case.

FAQ

Law firm questions.

Is this giving legal advice?

No. It does not say whether somebody has a case, what a case might be worth, or what they should do next, and it does not hedge its way into any of those. It asks your questions, records the answers, and either books a consultation or routes the matter to a person. It states during the conversation that it is not an attorney and that nothing said creates an attorney-client relationship.

What happens when somebody calls in real distress?

It stops screening. A caller who is frightened, in danger, or in the middle of an emergency does not get walked through an intake script. The agent tells them a person will speak with them, escalates on the path you set, and if anyone is in immediate danger it says to call 911. You decide what counts as urgent and who it reaches at 9pm.

Can it run our conflict check?

It collects the names, the other parties and the matter details, and compares them against the list you give it. It does not clear a conflict and it does not decide there is not one. A match, or a name it cannot resolve, stops the intake and goes to you before any consultation is offered. The check stays yours.

Is what a caller tells it confidential?

We do not make that claim on this page. Whether a given intake is privileged is a question for your counsel, not for a marketing page, and we are not going to answer it for you. What we will tell you is what the agent does: it collects what you told it to collect, writes the record where you told it to write it, and sends it nowhere else. Ask us exactly what happens to an intake record before you sign anything.
